Installation and use Remotek One

from firmware 2.0.0

(Instructions videos on Youtube)

Changes from earlier firmware to v2.0.0:

There are now only two profiles, the Map profile and the Media profile. There are no longer seperate iOS and Android settings in the Map profile. Instead holding in arrow up and arrow down will lock the controller in the current profile. Unlocking is done in the same manner.

Garmin Tread users will receive a special firmware with the extra profile to install through our app.

THe DMD2 profile is gone, you can now manage DMD2 in the main profile.

Android(Scroll down for iOS):
Download the Remotek app and start it. In the app:
Start accessibility services - In settings go to Installed apps and set Remotek to On.
Set On-screen keyboard  to show the in a text field when the controller is connected.

There are only two profiles now, the map and the media profile. Follow the instructions below to understand the behaviour.
In the profile tab, select which app or apps to use in the map profile. Supported apps installed on your device will be on top of the list.
Then if you want to use the media profile, select which app to open when you switch to that profile.

Controller:
Click on any button to wake the controller.
Back in our app, go to the controller tab and request permission to look for BT devices. Click Allow.
Click Pair controller, select controller RT One XXX with the serial number XXX that corresponds to the last three digits on the back of your controller.
Once connected check that the firmware version is 2.0.0. If not, update firmware in the app. Select 2.0.0 and give the controller a minute or so to update. Leave both controller and phone/tablet alone until it is updated.

Now you are ready to use the controller. It will be locked in the map profile the first time you use it. If you only will use it with maps, leave the controller locked.
Double click arrow right to cycle between the apps you have chosen to use in the map profile.
Once the map app of your choice opens you can pan the map with the arrows (click or hold), zoom with plus and minus, and go to your current position with double click on arrow left.
If this is all you want to do, your done. Have an excellent ride!
If not, read on.

Advanced, open up the controller for media controls:
Hold arrow up and arrow down to unlock the controller to allow switching between two profiles. The led will light green for a second.
Once opened you can lock it again with the same button combination(red light for one second). You can lock the controller in both profiles. This is to avoid accidentally switching profile (and hence the button behaviour).

When unlocked, to switch between the two profiles, perform a click-hold on arrow up. An explanation for the click-hold sequence, which some users find a bit difficult in the beginning, but very handy when understood:
First you click (push in and immediately release), then you press the same button back in and hold it for a second or two. If you go to the media profile the led will flash green two times. Do the same combination to go back to the map profile, shown with one green flash.

In the media profile, the buttons are as follows:
Arrow left and arrow right are media previous and next (either switch tracks in a media player or channels a radio player).
Plus and minus are volume up and down.
Arrow up and down are for adjusting screen brightness.
Double click arrow down is play/pause.

The media profile is also used by most roadbook apps. Use arrow left/right and buttons plus and minus for trip adjustment and paper scroll.

Especially for you guys who ride roadbook, I recommend locking the profile while in media profile, to avoid accidentally changing over to the map profile while competing.
------------
Garmin Tread users will get a special firmware sent by email for installation through our app, which also is sent to you as an sideloadable apk file.

That´s it. Happy riding!

iOS:

There is no Remotek app for iOS yet, so you need to set up a few things in the iOS system itself. For updating the firmware, we suggest you borrow a friends Android phone, download the tiny app of ours (Remotek), connect your controller and install the latest firmware (2.0.0)  from the controller tab in the app.

Back to iOS, connect controller in bluetooth(remember to disconnect it from the Android device):

Go to settings/bluetooth and connect the RT One XXX controller with the XXX that corresponds to the three last digits in the back of your controller.

Be aware that since iOS believes you have connected a keyboard, the onscreen keyboard will not show when you enter a text field. Solution: Turn the screen off and back on to get the onscreen keyboard to show. If that does not work, you need to turn off bluetooth until you have done the texting.

Then go to iOS settings/Accessibility/Keyboard/Full Keyboard Access/Commands and remove the commands set for the four arrow buttons. This is to allow the pan function in maps.

Now you can use the controller in Remotek suppported map apps, for example Guru Maps, Osmand Maps, Pocket Earth and coming up, Stegra IO. Pan with the arrow buttons, zoom with plus and minus, and go back to your current position with double click on arrow left.

If the controller is new to you after august 2024, it will be locked in the map profile when you recieve it. There is one more profile, the media profile. In here the controller buttons change behaviour to media buttons.

To unlock the controller click arrow up and down simultaneously until the led lights green for approx one second. To lock it again, repeat and observe that the led lights red for one second.

Once unlocked, you can cycle the two profiles with click-hold on arrow up; first a click, then press the same button down until the led flashes green. One flash means you switched to the map profile, two flashes means you switched to the media profile.

In media profile:

Arrow left and right is media skip/previous in media players or Channel up or down in radio players

Plus and minus is volume up and down.

Arrow up and down adjust screen brightness.

Double click on arrow down is media play/pause.

For roadbook riders use arrows left/right and pluss/minus to adjust trip and scroll roadbook in apps like RBNavPro.

To set up iOS so that when you switch profile you open up the preferred app (like Guru Maps in the map profile and Spotify in the Media profile).

Create two shortcuts; in the iOS Shortcuts app, make one shortcut that simply opens Guru Maps and one shortcut that opens Spotify. Name the shortcuts so that you know which is which.

Then go to iOS settings/Accessibility/Keyboard/Full Keyboard Access/Commands and scroll all the way down to the two shortcuts you made. Click on each and assign A to the map shortcut by click hold arrow up. If a B comes up, click hold again.

Do the same with the Spotify shortcut, so that B is assigned.

You should now be ready to use the controller. Click hold arrow up will alternatively open your map and your media app.

Good luck and give us feedback on these instructions.

Happy riding!

Fault finding guide Android and iOS

In the case that the remote isn't working as expected, or not working at all, check and do the following.

Is the remote connected? Go into controller setting in our app or bluetoth settings in iOS and check if BT is on and the unit listed as connected.

If no try to reconnect.

If yes, is the remote responding? Click-hold on Arrow up and observe the green led which should blink 1 or 2 times, or if the unit is locked, a red flash.

If the remote responds but nothing happens, remove/unbond the remote in your phone/tablet´s bluetooth settings and reset the remote: Hold arrow up, plus and minus in at the same time for about 5 seconds until the led flashes red and green.

Pair again by finding the device as a new device in your bluetooth settings.

Is it behaving strange in map mode, like sending volume up and down on buttons + and - ? You are simply in the wrong profile. Click-hold arrow up to change to the map profile.

The apps in either profile does not open when you click-hold arrow up. Go to settings/accessibilty/Open appsand turn off and back on Remotek.

If the remote is dead and/or does not work in any settings, we will replace it. You return the remote and we will send you a replacement unit.
